Chaos of a thousand hurried footsteps, in the heart of a bustling city
In the heart of a bustling city, where concrete jungles rise and traffic crawls, a mirror reflects a world in motion. It captures the chaos of a thousand hurried footsteps, the impatient honking of horns, and the blurred faces of strangers caught in the urban gridlock. The mirror in the congested city is a reflection of life itself – a constant f lux of motion and stillness, chaos and order, despair and hope. It is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, the enduring power of connection, and the enduring beauty that can be found even in the most unexpected places. In my work, I have used photos of different places in Kolkata and talked to the people there, their memories and experiences, along with my own experiences of those places, through these images. The first reason for using a mirror here is that I have used these mirrors myself since I was a child and have seen them in my neighbourhood and in my family's homes. I feel that these mirrors are a special part of Kolkata and these mirrors represent Kolkata in some way or another. And when you see your face in this mirror, you are experiencing your existence in this present moment in Kolkata.
Rimpa and Protyush operated with their interventionist plan to engage with city space and the passersby.
And together they presented their experience of working with the city through an interactive open studio, where they brought in their engagement with the city, community and publics of Kolkata.
