Kaee Kolkata City Lab (KKCL) is a multiyear initiative envisioned by Premjish Achari, which explores the unique characteristics of Kolkata through various means, including visual arts, scientific research, affordable nutritious food, ecological interventions, and urban planning that fosters inclusion.

Like any metropolis, Kolkata has its own set of cultural markers—from its distinctive culinary practices to the memories embedded in its streets, stones, and archives. Even natural elements, such as the wet cement lingering after a summer rain or the sweltering humidity of the season, evoke a sense of nostalgia. Understanding this diversity requires more than mere observation; it involves engaging with literature and art, and the variety of voices and conversations within public spaces and cafes. Kolkata is a city of contrasts—old and new, rich and poor, traditional and modern. These contradictions blend together to create a unique and vibrant tapestry. KKCL navigates these diverse spaces and voices to explore new ways of caring for the city through sustainable practices, material constructions, and technological applications.
