Road to Pilgrim
One of the oldest roads in Kolkata is Chitpur Road. This Chitpur Road was once called the "Road to Pilgrims". This road once stretched from north to south. At that time, this road went from Bankbazar or Bagbazar through Chowringhee Jungle to Kalighat Temple.
Originally, Chitpur was one of the markets of this region and the residence of Banedi Bengali business families.
Even today, some noble Banedi Bengali Hindu families still have their mansions here and they are still trying to maintain their Banedi culture. Silver gelatin is one of the pioneer mediums of photography.
I am trying to archive the moments and various architectural forms of old Kolkata through an old photographic process through my work.

Kalutola in College Street area, is named after a very old community. Kalu means those who used to trade in edible oil, hence the name Kalutola.
The Sadhu Khan family still lives in this area in their ancestral home. Currently, this area is a Muslim dominated area.
Many Bengali Banedi families used to live in this area, but now very few Bengali community people live here.
After the riots of 1946, many property exchanges took place and many Bengali families left this area to move elsewhere. The Sadhu Khan house at 23 Kalutola Street was looted during the riots, but they did not want to leave their ancestral home and go anywhere else. They still worship their ancestral goddess, but it is not done in the Thakur Dalan, but in other Thakur houses.
So far, the promoters or land mafia have not paid attention to this house in that way. interview sadhu khan family.
