Vasudha Thozhur is renowned for her painterly approach within the contemporary art field.
As part of her KKCL research project - Thozhur proposes drawing as a research methodology. Just as one might write in a diary, drawing serves as her means of engaging with the city. Drawing involves a unique coordination of hand, mind, and eye. Thozhur feels this contrasts sharply with photography's rapid 'capture and move on' attitude during site visits.

For Thozhur, drawing is a way to look, feel, and immerse oneself at the moment, the space, and among the people. In a city characterized by its relentless pace—driven by capitalist modes of consumption and production—drawing in the street provides a deliberate slowdown. It creates a pause, disrupting the constant motion and capitalistic mindset.
She commits to creating one drawing or painting daily to represent her engagement with the city. Referencing Ritajyoti Bandopadhyay, Thozhur notes that roads and speed symbolize capital accumulation, with infrastructure projects like roads, railways, and airways furthering these agendas. In contrast, walking through the city and taking time to observe and draw introduces an alternative flow of life. This approach transforms production into a more deliberate and meaningful process, promoting reflection and dissemination.
